Beautifully said Brian. I guess like a few I made the drive to Meeniyan shorter by playing the album really loud for the first time in sometime and a slight sense of doubt crept into my overwhelming expectations. This is perhaps (read on) the greatest live rock and roll album of all time, but the drums are real soft and loose and the bass meanders (in a driving way) all over the place. Mick is on song and the guitars are awesome, ripping chucks out of one speaker and soldering them back with molten metal out of the other. Could anyone ever recreate such a thing. But they did those Monkey Men. Perfectly selected and drilled to mayhem they, a s you so beautifully put it, are the band that the music has searched for for 40 years. God Bless the Monkey Men and all who sailed in her. The Jolly Rogers is at the top of his flag pole. Cheers Ken. p.s. Bring on Live at Leeds and I dare say they could have a crack at the Apollo to boot.

I have just got back to Sydney from San Francisco, having heard about HSB on OTR (via internet streaming) back in July and deciding that getting to it was an absolute must!

What an extraordinary 3 days it was! Highlights for me are way too many to mention, but included Little Feat right at the end, a blistering Allmanesque version of "The Road Goes on Forever" (Robert Earl Keen / Rich Brotherton), Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder, and a mesmerising version of "The Weight" by Gillian Welch, Emmylou and Old Crow Medicine Show late on the Saturday. Then there was Allen Toussaint, Earl Scruggs, Guy Clark, Booker T, etc, etc...

I saw one guy walking around wearing a Rhythms T-shirt. Was that you?

Cheers

Hi there Brian

loving the updates hope you are having a great time (we are all jealous). Off to Narooma this weekend to catch Charlie Musselwhite, Candy Kayne and of course Cederic Burnside and Lightin Malcolm. You missed a great gig at Baz's, Charles was in great form and Davey Lane was teriffic (he looks about 12 years old!). Caught up with Rob and Richard there, we are all following your blog. Any way just wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying reading about your exploits. Take Care
